"Cold as Ice"

Here come a few pictures of beautiful Ice sculptures that were part of the Peninsula Winter Games,
which is an annual community celebration that teams up with the "Tustumena 200" dogsled race.
The "T-200" is one of the qualifying races for the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race,
called the “Last Great Race on Earth”, starts March 1.

The entire Johnson family caught up with several ACC staff members and students
to catch the start of the big race.   Brrrrr!   It was a brisk  –17° F that morning.
A friend of the Johnsons, Jon Little, was one of this year's dogsled race competitors.

From Anchorage, in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea coast,
each team of 12 to 16 dogs and their musher cover over 1150 miles, in 10 to 17 days.

And they're off! Because it was -17° F, these hounds proudly wore their
colorful winter coats and booties.
